RUSSELL — The academic leaders for the class of 2019 at Edwards-Knox Central School are valedictorian Spencer C. Thomas and salutatorian Zachary J. Scott.

Mr. Thomas, son of George Thomas III and Mary Thomas, Edwards, has an academic average of 98.65 and will graduate with an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors and mastery in mathematics and science.

He is a member of National Honor Society, serving as co-president. Among the awards he received are Edwards-Knox Outstanding Performance Awards in English, global history, Advanced Placement U.S. history, chemistry, Spanish, precalculus and anatomy and physiology as well as Best Effort Award for Model Organization of American States (OAS).

He was nominated for the Rochester Institute of Technology’s Creativity and Innovation Award, University of Rochester’s Baush & Lomb Science Award and Clarkson’s Leadership Award.

He has participated in New York State School Music Association, All-County and All-State Bands and the concert band, playing the French horn. He also was a cast member for “Grease” and the senior play, “It’s Not You It’s Me” and has worked on sound and lights for school productions.

Mr. Thomas will attend Rochester Institute of Technology to major in engineering exploration.

Mr. Scott, son of Matthew Scott and Diane Scott, Russell, has an academic average of 98.61 and will graduate with an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors and mastery in mathematics and science.

He is a member of National Honor Society, serving as co-president. Among awards he received are Edwards-Knox Outstanding Performance Awards in physics, chemistry, Spanish, Global history, band and jazz band and Edwards-Knox Best Effort Awards in geometry, English, precalculus, anatomy and physiology, Advanced Placement U.S. history and health.

Mr. Scott was nominated for the University of Rochester’s Xerox Award, Clarkson’s Achievement Award and Rochester Institute of Technology’s Computing Award.

He has been a member of the school basketball and soccer teams, earning several athletic accolades, including Scholar Athlete-Team Awards, Individual Scholar Athlete Awards and Section X All-Academic Awards in both sports. In his senior year, he earned First Team All-Northern for soccer and Athlete of Distinction for both soccer and basketball.

Mr. Scott will attend Rochester Institute of Technology to major in engineering.
