WATERTOWN — The academic leaders for the class of 2019 at Watertown High School are Joshua Rainbolt, valedictorian, and Olivia Ruth Askins, salutatorian.
Mr. Rainbolt, son of Raymond and Marie Rainbolt, has an academic average of 97.84. He completed several Advanced Placement courses and among awards received are the Daughters of the American Revolution Youth Citizenship Award, EJ Herrmann Scholarship, and the Jefferson Leadership Institute Scholarship.
He served as captain of the varsity cross country team and is a member of the track and field and swimming and diving teams. He earned Frontier League All Star awards in swimming and cross country.
Mr. Rainbolt serves as treasurer of the diversity club and is a member of National Honor Society, political science club, environmental club, and Whiz Quiz. He was a representative for the Rotary Club, and a WWNY TV-7 News Academic All-Star. He plays the trombone for the wind ensemble and has participated in Bi County and Area All State bands.
He will attend the University of Rochester, where he will major in biotechnology, with a focus on biomimicry.
Miss Askins, daughter of Kimberly and Karl Askins, has an academic average of 97.56. She has completed several Advanced Placement courses and received several awards, including the Augsbury North Country Scholarship and Gold Key Award for Ceramics.
She serves as treasurer for both her class and National Honor Society, secretary for the diversity club, is a part of the booster club, and plays the flute for the wind ensemble. She took part in Values of Volunteering at the SPCA, Urban Mission and Zoo, and has volunteered as a soccer coach and a VBS leader at her church.
Miss Askins is a member of the soccer and lacrosse teams and a representative to the Rotary Club.
She will attend St. Lawrence University, Canton, to major in biology on the pre-med track.
