City paid more for golf club than its set worth

The Thompson Park Golf Course in Watertown. Alec Johnson/Watertown Daily Times

WATERTOWN — The city on Thursday received one proposal from a local restaurant operator to run the clubhouse in the newly acquired former Watertown Golf Club.

Spokes Craft Beer and Tapas, the popular Public Square nightspot, was the only business to submit a proposal to operate the concessions at the clubhouse for the Thompson Park Golf Course.

Spokes is only willing to pay $1 for the lease? Councilman Hickey said someone would pay 6 figures to lease this from the city. What happened councilman Hickey? I wish 1 of the 3 would just admit this purchase was wrong!

Obviously he was smoking some of that wacky weed if he thought they would get 6 figures. All they had to do was look at the other 2 municipal courses that are compatable to see that. Tupper lake, the Town loses almost 10K each year and they contract the whole thing out. Massena/Louisville the Town does ok, they only lose about 5K each year.
