Certified Nurse-Midwife collects diapers for families in need

OSWEGO — In honor of National Diaper Need Awareness Week, Sept. 21-27, Oswego Health partnered with Certified Nurse-Midwife Theresa Naro, of Oswego County OBGYN, to spearhead a diaper drive within the hospital.

Diapers, wipes and creams were collected by employees throughout the week to benefit children throughout Central New York.

“Being a midwife, I see firsthand the need for this basic health necessity,” Naro said. “Not having diapers means that babies who cry because their diaper is dirty will cry for that much longer, increasing stress and anxiety for parents struggling to make ends meet. In some situations, this could lead to increased risk for physical abuse. I’m hoping these donated diapers will help our families during these unprecedented times.”

Dozens of packaged diapers in various sizes were collected by Oswego Health employees and the goal is to do this on an annual basis in honor of National Diaper Need Awareness Week.
