OSWEGO - The Oswego Alliance Church has begun an outreach group with the express purpose of supporting the community through supplying items that are handmade. The interim pastor John Schuerholz has been preaching a series on love that has gotten parishioners thinking and acting.

They plan on reaching out to a different community organization each month. Some of the organizations are Foster Care, Pregnancy Care Center, Oswego Hospital, St. Luke’s and Galisano Children’s Hospital.

The first outreach is the Veteran’s Hospital in Syracuse. Many veteran’s from the area receive their care there and the hospital and the patients are in need of some support. Some of the handmade things that they need are fidget blankets (very helpful for dementia, Alzheimer’s and brain injuries), lap blankets for warmth (these can be knit crocheted or sewn), wheelchair and walker bags and adult bibs.

They began collecting on Memorial Day and will continue until the 4th of July. Donations should be brought to the church by Sunday, July 7.

If people would like to help support the veterans, items and directions can be found on Pinterest.
