MEXICO - Kimberly Heagerty and Calla Lewis have earned the distinction of valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, for the Mexico Academy and Central School’s Class of 2019.
Heagerty is the daughter of Timothy and Karen Heagerty. Upon graduation, she plans to attend the University of Rochester to pursue a double-major in mechanical engineering and political science.
During her time at Mexico, the valedictorian served as National Honor Society vice president, Art Honor Society president, Math Honor Society vice president, Rocket Club president and Drama Club treasurer.
Heagerty was also a member of the Spanish Honor Society, English Honor Society and Key Club. She participated in Oswego County Academic Youth (OCAY) League and was captain of the Mock Trial Team. Kimberly was also captain of the varsity tennis team.
Salutatorian Lewis is the daughter of Dawn Williams and Wesley Lewis. She also credits Chrissy Mason, Jim Mason and Christina Wilson as her stand-in parents. Lewis is set to attend Stony Brook University and said she will major in psychology.
Lewis was first chair and section leader of the Symphonic Band, woodwind captain of the Marching Band and a member of Jazz Band. She was German Club president, Math Honor Society president, German Honor Society vice president and Key Club vice president.
The salutatorian was a member of the National Honor Society, English Honor Society and Steering Committee. She also participated in Mock Trial and OCAY League. Outside of the classroom, Calla was a member of the varsity lacrosse team.
Mexico Academy and Central School will hold its commencement at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 28.
