MASSENA — The St. Lawrence Centre mall is going to the dogs — literally — on Saturday.
The mall is hosting the “Dog Daze of Winter” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a variety of activities scheduled throughout the day.
Mall General Manager Erica Leonard said she worked with the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, who developed the day’s schedule. The mall and chamber, along with Town and Country Veterinary Clinic and Tractor Supply of Massena are the hosts and sponsors.
“There was an interest in doing some kind of a dog show here, so the chamber and I got together,” she said.
Activities will take place from the center court area to the former TJ Maxx store, with vendors in between the two areas and seminars taking place in the former Express store.
Trooper Connor Sutton and Canine Skiff will start the Dog Daze of Winter event with an information and demonstration session at 9 a.m. There’s also a day-long Dog Club match at the former TJ Maxx location, and a dog costume pet parade organized by the 4-H Youth Club will be held at 3 p.m. The $2 entry fee will be split between the 4-H Youth Dog Club and the Massena Humane Society.
In addition, there’s a chance to win a new fence system from Dog Watch of Upstate NY during a 4 p.m. drawing.
Among the sessions at the former Express location are presentations on service dogs, a 4-H Youth Club obedience show, a service dogs skills presentation and mini-trick training class.
Ms. Leonard said visitors are welcome to bring their dogs to the event, but they must be leashed.
“If their dogs make any messes, be prepared to clean them up,” she said.
The only area where the visiting dogs will not be allowed is the Dog Club match.
The day will end with the rescheduled Completely Stranded show in the former TJ Maxx space. The group of actors perform Improv comedy. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for $15.
