New on DVD: ‘Addams Family’ brood takes road trip in animated sequel

Another outing with the macabre but lovable family tops the DVD releases for the week of Jan. 18.

“The Addams Family 2”: The Addams Family hit the road in their haunted camper for a summer vacation in this sequel to the 2019 animated feature that updated the classic characters for a new, younger audience.

“Patriarch Gomez (Oscar Isaac) is inspired to take the whole crew on a vacation in order to encourage family bonding after Wednesday (Chloe Grace Moretz) starts to feel alienated from the rest of the Addams, embarrassed by their overbearing affections at her school science fair,” writes Tribune News Service critic Katie Walsh in her review. “While the family hits Niagara Falls, Sleepy Hollow, Miami Beach, the Alamo and the Grand Canyon, it’s a chance for Wednesday to consider what it truly means to be an Addams.”

“Dynasty: Season Four”: CW reboot of the 1980s series about two wealthy families maneuvering to secure their fortunes, with the setting moved from Denver to Atlanta.

“Riverdale: Season 5”: Based on the Archie Comics characters, this live-action CW drama follows a group of teens in the fictional town.

“The Dry”: Eric Bana plays a man returning to his small hometown to investigate a friend’s murder and reckon with his past in this slow-burn Australian thriller.

“The Last Son”: Western about a line of feuding outlaws, with a father aiming to kill all his offspring and one son trying to stop him dead in his tracks. Starring Sam Worthington, Machine Gun Kelly and Thomas Jane.

“Red Stone”: Neal McDonough plays a hitman out for revenge after the murder of his older brother who must track down the teen who witnessed the killing before other criminals or the authorities get to him first.

“An Unquiet Grave”: A man returns to the site of his wife’s fatal car crash one year later with her sister to perform a strange ritual.

OUT ON DIGITAL HD JAN. 18

“Live or Let Die”: Post-apocalyptic horror film about two men looking for sanctuary following a virus outbreak that leaves humanity on the brink of extinction.

“Nocturna: Side A - The Great Old Man’s Night/Nocturna: Side B - Where Elephants Go to Die”: Argentinian film about a 100-year-old man fighting for redemption on his last night before death, and then another take on the story as a woman narrates his final night.

“Roommate Wanted”: Two college students must fight for survival after subleasing their extra bedroom to a violent man with multiple personalities.
