WATERTOWN — After a public hearing lasting a few seconds — with no public comment — the Jefferson County Board of Legislators unanimously approved the Jefferson Community College budget Monday.
There are few surprises in the college’s $29,443,611 budget for 2019-20, $5,262,179 of which will come from the county — a 2 percent increase over last year. Tuition will also be rising 3.5 percent, which amounts to about $84 more per semester.
“We really appreciate the support of Jefferson County. They are a wonderful sponsors,” said President Ty Stone after the meeting.
In other business, the legislators approved all county resolutions brought by committees.
Among these was a memorial for former legislator James D. St. Croix, Sr.
“He was a great guy,” Legislator Carolyn D. Fitzpatrick said before the vote. “He really was a very fair-minded person, not only for the city of Watertown but for all of Jefferson County. And he could be funny as heck or serious, ... and he always had the best gossip in town.”
Scott A. Gray, Chair of the Board of Legislators, said that the Board had made a contribution in Mr. St. Croix’s name to the Northern New York Community Foundation.
