Rep. Elise M. Stefanik, R-Willsboro, praised the 1980 U.S. Men’s Olympic Hockey team during remarks on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Ms. Stefanik said she heard stories about the team from her father, who she said attended the American team’s upset win over the heavily favored Soviet Union.

“Decades of cold war politics made this event more than just an ordinary hockey game, and for many it was one more proud reminder of what a determined and united America can accomplish,” she said.

Tuesday was the 35th anniversary of the team’s gold-medal game victory over Finland.
