Special counsel requested in case against fired cop

POTSDAM — The St. Lawrence County district attorney is requesting a special prosecutor from outside the county to try the case of a former Potsdam police officer accused of choking a suspect in custody while he was still a patrolman.

Matthew A. Seymour, 45, is charged with one misdemeanor count of criminal obstruction of breathing. He had been a village police officer since Dec. 20, 2004.
