MANNSVILLE — The annual Tourathon was held at the Winona Forest on Feb. 10 — and nearly 200 people took to their skis for a chance to win one of three races.
“We had people register from all over ... Canada, Maine, Vermont, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Maryland, New York, and Washington, D.C.,” said ski director Laurie Nohle.
There were three cross-country races — 12.5k, 25k and the Walter Chapman 50k Classical — which were each completed in a big loop through the forest.
“One loop is the 12.5k, two loops is the 25K and four loops is the 50k,” Ms. Nohle said.
The oldest person to complete the four-loop, 50k course wins the coveted Walter Chapman Award.
Dan Reese has traveled to the area from Carlisle, Pa., four times for this specific race. “There is always good snow here and it’s a fun race that is always well put together,” he said.
A few school and community ski teams participated as they have in years past.
“We have 14 people skiing today — some of us may try to beat our records,” said Amelia Ouellette of the Camden Nordic Team.
She placed 10th overall in last year’s 12.5k race. This year, she took 13th place.
The Osceola Ski Club had youth and adult participants.
“We hope the kids have fun with this,” said club member Leah Poulin, of Henderson.
Skiers received awards at the CCC Camp before moving to the Mannsville-Manor Elementary School for lunch and warm showers.
