Letter to the Editor

As a retired county treasurer and Lewis County taxpayer, the election of the next Lewis County treasurer is very important to me. Eric Virkler is the most qualified applicant running in the 2019 election.

Eric was born and raised in Lewis County, a graduate of Lowville Academy and Central School District and Syracuse University with a bachelor of science in Accounting. Eric is a licensed certified public Accountant; has worked as an auditor with Coopers & Lybrand; served as chief financial officer at Lewis County General Hospital for six years; is licensed in life, health and investment insurance sales with Stephen Foy Insurance Agency; served as clerk/treasurer and administrator for the village of Lowville; served as director of economic development and planning for Lewis County for six years; and currently serves as director of Lewis County Economic Development and executive director of the Lewis County Industrial Development Agency.

In these positions, he has been responsible for budgeting; state, federal and local reporting; management of departments and staff; developed good communications skills with staff and boards; and is very familiar with the needs of Lewis County residents and their concerns. Eric also is a committee member of the Lowville Cream Cheese Festival, chairman of Mountain View Prevention Services, Lowville Summer Recreation committee member and past member of Lewis County Empire Zone Board and Lewis County Chamber of Commerce.

I personally worked with Eric when I was county treasurer and found him easy to work with and extremely knowledgeable. Please vote Eric Virkler for Lewis County Treasurer in the June 25 primary.
