Stefanik lied about Cobb’s stance on police

At the Back the Blue rally in St. Lawrence County, U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik lied to her supporters about her political opponent, Tedra Cobb.

She said, “I have an opponent who supports defunding the police” (Watertown Daily Times, July 19).

That is not true!

In June, Cobb stated, “First and foremost, I do not support defunding the police,’ Cobb wrote in an email. ‘But I do think we need reforms. ’ … Cobb has not released public statements on these [Congressional police reform] bills, but the Stefanik campaign sent out press releases with assumptions of what Cobb’s opinions are.” (Adirondack Daily Enterprise, June 30)

Stefanik didn’t respond to that reporter’s request for comments.

The article is easily found on the web, so you can read for yourself the details about Ms. Cobb’s positions on police reform and her clear statement that she does not support defunding the police.

Cobb’s campaign confirmed to me that her position has not changed.

Stefanik is lying to her own constituents, mirroring her mentor President Donald Trump’s style of fear tactics and bald-faced lies.

Tedra Cobb probably understands local law enforcement better than Stefanik does.

Cobb worked inside of prisons and was a volunteer firefighter.

Nationwide, we need reforms.

The rates at which black Americans are detained, arrested, hurt and killed by police are horrific and must change.

We must come together to stop dangerous practices for the good of everyone.

Our own St. Lawrence County Sheriff Brooks Bigwarfe is already willingly working to meet new state standards (North Country This Week, July 14).

And where is Elise Stefanik?

She is lying to us, the voters, in order to scare us and divide us.

The truth is that law enforcement officers are not under attack, and Tedra Cobb does not want to defund the police.

We deserve an honest, responsible, balanced representative in Congress, and that is Tedra Cobb.

It's a glorious mud hole! Jump in and have some fun. Whoops, might get a stain on your sailing sneakers. Republicans have more fun because we have mud holes to play in. Besides, do you really think it's sad, given your political angle? "Mud holes"? Is that what Trumpies call fudge factories these days?

Newsjunkie39a

"do you enjoy trying to ruin a conversation"? No, Mr. Bull, I leave that work to you.

Pitbull

I didnt say "ruin". I said "muddle" because you were speaking in tongues. Besides, this was not a conversation. This was a concerted hit job by an organized band of Cobb supporters who I'm pretty sure want to attack Stefanik and the air she breathes. They might even hate Trump a little. This is an echo chamber, not a conversation. I just add some diversity to the normal pattern you have become used to.

Newsjunkie39a

"speaking in tongues" Wow, you mean like the Holy Ghost? Powerful!

Pitbull

Yes, very powerful.

Newsjunkie39a

For a while I thought Stefanik would be straight with us, even if we disagreed with her position on some issues. Then she met Lenny Alcivar. And then she hitched her wagon to the Trumpstar. Sad to see this woman's decline, sinking deeper and deeper into the GOP mud hole.

Ah Mr. Bull, your "elitist" swipe was SO clever, SO timely, SO tribal--SO well, full of Bull. My wife and I had a good laugh. At your expense.

Newsjunkie39a

I do think it's sad, considering how the woman has allowed vaulting ambition to overwhelm her better judgment. Oh, and my wife and I enjoyed your little swipe at elitists, Mr. Bull. What is an elitist, anyway? Anyone with whom you disagree?

Pitbull

Wait, were you the person who didnt like Edwards, NY? That is an elitist. Come to think about it, there are many elitists on this blog correcting grammar and questioning the meaning of words. Those are elitists with sailing sneakers. Glad you got a laugh, though.

14 comments and all are liberal. Most carry a mocking tone. All from the party of "inclusion". Ready your pitchforks, comrades!

A great idea would be for you to go back and review your own comments.

Bible Study with Pitbull!

Today's bible verse for you:

Matt7:1-5

Pitbull

I would be glad to organize a Bible study for this group. Seriously! Let me know if you're interested.

Pitbull

By the way, Htro, I'm glad you reminded me of Matthew 7. Let's inject a bit more biblical wisdom into this discussion.

KRobbins

I like the parable of the snake by Apostle Donald, ‘You knew darn well I was a snake before you took me in.’ Projecting again. Yes, the majority who voted against him did know he was a snake and he shows it more and more everyday.

KRobbins

Yes, you read the Sermon on the Mount and think this is what Trump lives and breathes. What a Holy, Christian man he is. Pitbull can see it. The kindness towards strangers in our land. The chaste affection toward women, especially young ones changing in locker rooms. The forgiveness as he gives well wishes to a procurer for a pedophile when she’s arrested. He’s so saintly. Nearly a male Mother Theresa.

Pitbull

Interesting that you were not serious about the Bible study. I guess that means your tone was mocking one. You need to drop your pretenses of superiority and have a convo with a smelly, trailer dwelling, Walmart shopper who reveres God's Word. You might find something unexpected there besides one sided thinking and blind hatred.

KRobbins

Your politics are bad enough. Can’t imagine what your religious beliefs are if you’re a Trump backer. I’m sure Jesus was very pleased Trump used tear gas and non-lethal munitions to clear peaceful protesters so he could mutely stand in front of His house holding up a Bible like he won it in a raffle. Your interpretation of Christianity must be awesome.

Trump has some real leading lights of the religion surrounding him and it doesn’t seem to have done much good. Though he did just extend well wishes to a procurer of girls for abuse by rich and powerful men. Now if he could only learn to forgive Hillary and Jeff Sessions and John McCain and Rosie O’Donnell and Arnold and on and on. Yeah, he should work on that blind hatred.

Pitbull

Krobby,

All you need to work on is your issues, not Trump's. I am confident in my understanding of Christianity. I would love to discuss it with you. Are you willing?

Holmes -- the real one

Pitbull --

I assume that you think that you are letting your light shine, but actually

nobody here could do a better job of disproving your stated beliefs than you, Pitbull.

KRobbins

kRobby,

All you need to work on is your issues, not Trump's. I am confident in my understanding of Christianity. I would love to discuss it with you. Are you willing?

Since you can’t even recognize that Trump’s lack of ability to express empathy for over 140,000 American deaths, most preventable, has caused him to ratchet up hatred and division with the use of violence I don’t have much confidence in your understanding of the teachings of Jesus. You see criticism of the president here as hatred, but look at any actions by him as divinely inspired leadership. Good luck with your Bible study.

Pitbull

I'm waiting for another Bible verse. Maybe rockloper can help.

Nice_Commenter

Saying we don’t need to spend tax dollars on 27 different types of police in St. Lawrence County is “liberal”. Worshipping a 4-times bankrupt president who was having sex with a porn star while his third wife was pregnant is “Conservative”. Thanks for clearing that up!

Holmes -- the real one

Pitbull --

That mote and log thing.

Let's see you apply it first.

Pitbull

That's not how it works, Htro. You dont get to stand in your crowd of pitchfork wielders, with your identity masked and order someone else to clean up his act first. If you are a believer in Jesus, you consider your own sin and take the risk of fixing it. You're only this bold because this is virtual.

Holmes -- the real one

Well Pitbull, Thank you for demonstrating your full repertoire.

Pitbull

Thank you, Right Reverend Dr Holmes! Have you read any other verses? Perhaps you could consult an atheist named rocky to help you.

Newsjunkie39a

Many use religion to obscure a shortage of logic.

You can pick up your bible in the Fiction section of your nearest bookstore or library.

I already have a lot of them. I could give you one.

Regarding the party of 'inclusion', I'd welcome any former republicans who finally realized they didn't want to be a part of the WW2 German party.

Pitbull

Dude, do you know the definition of inclusion? You accept people as they are. Now which party fails to accept different ideas? To be an accepted member of the modern demos you must be pro choice, anti 2and A, weak on defense, pro BLM, anti trad family and many other mandatory entry requirements!

rockloper

I'll gladly accept your offer for bible study. Have at it!

Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.

Holmes -- the real one

rockloper -- poor pitbull is like a local pick up artist challenging Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

Pitbull

Pastor Holmes, you are using the PC version of Star Trek so you dont offend your fellow Thought Police. Back when you were trying acid in the 60s, it was "where no man has gone before". This would surely offend a few fellow commenters. Oops, I said "fellow".

Pitbull

Hmmm, I'll pray about it.

Newsjunkie39a

Mr. Bull, your description of mainstream Democrats is nonsense. Should one say that Republicans love to scold Dems about their lack of fiscal responsibility, but then when they're in power they spend like drunken sailors on shore leave, bringing on recessions and even a depression? Don't like that accusation, do you? It has more validity than your polly-parrot claims.

Newsjunkie39a

Obviously the work of elitists, Mr. Bull. And your definition of "elitist"? I know! Anyone who disagrees with you.

Newsjunkie39a

Mr. Bull, I simply cannot ABIDE those snobby folks who own sailboats. Probably parade around in Mercedes too. Oh, and yes, they may even own sailing sneakers. Horrible!

rdsouth

Here's the logic chain:

1. Some people identifying as Democrats (they would call it the 'lesser evil') want to defund the police.

2. "Democrats want to defund the police!!!"

3. Tedra Cobb is a Democrat

4. "Tedra Cobb wants to defund the police!!!"

KRobbins

1. Some Trump supporters are virulent racists showing up at rallies with Confederate flags and swastikas.

2. Elise Stefanik is a Trump supporter.

3. Elise Stefanik is a virulent racist.

Is that how it works?

I already know that neither Trump nor Stefanik care about whether anyone in Northern NY has health insurance.

Holmes -- the real one

That "logic" sounds familiar!

Here's the email currently being sent out by the Trump campaign:

from:

Dear Patriot,

What I’m about to tell you is important.

The Democrats have made it clear that they want to defund and abolish our police. Never in history has law enforcement been treated so badly as they are in radical, liberal-run cities.

My team just launched a new ad that exposes the TRUTH about what America would look like if there were no police. The American People deserve to know what they’d be getting into if they elected a big government SOCIALIST like Joe Biden.

That’s why your support is so important right now. We need to make sure we FLOOD the airwaves with our new ad, which is why I’m calling on my best supporters to help raise $1,000,000 by 11:59 PM TONIGHT.

We can’t let them get away with DESTROYING our great police departments.

I want to know who stood with me during this crucial time. I’ve asked to see a list of EVERY Patriot who steps up to help us reach our $1,000,000 goal by 11:59 PM TONIGHT. I hope I see your name.

Please contribute ANY AMOUNT TODAY to our Official Trump Ad Blitz Fund to get on the list of Patriots my team hands me.

Thank you,

President Trump Signature Headshot

Donald J. Trump

WHAT????? Stefanik lied about Tedra!!!!!---It simply is not possible--She is good, honest, a real role model for North Country youth whom she also hires during the summer to spy on her opponents. She is an outsider, not a politician. She is "the most bipartisan member of Congress" and a Pol with a "record of real results." This is all obviously FAKE NEWS because I have heard nothing about this from Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity who are both boy scouts as we all know. Stefanik loves her constituents since she grew up here in a log cabin as we all know, loved ice fished as a small child, drinks Bud Light, proud gun owner, and loves our maple syrup who spends a LOT of time in her district..... yeah right!!! Let's run her out of the district on a rail in the next election.

rockloper

Yup, Tedra

rockloper

Should anyone be surprised? After all she is a republican.

minder

Great letter! I completely agree with your observations about Stefanik's efforts to create division and conflict among her constituents. And her motivation seems to be all about herself and her career goals. It's unconscionable.

rockloper

[thumbup]

Holmes -- the real one

Excellent letter, Jennifer Mitchell of Colton.

It's getting to the point where responsible journalists should handle these lies straight up front in the headline. Trump lied. Stefanik lied.

Or maybe just --- Trump is a liar, Stefanik is a liar.

A liar, after all, is not someone who makes a mistake and apologizes, A liar is simply someone who tells lies.

It's getting to be a pattern with Stefanik.

minder

You're right that the correct terminology is important. The label of 'liar' is accurate. And that's a threat to all of us.

rockloper

[thumbup]

KRobbins

Lies and division. It’s all Trump/Stefanik has left. Has she come out in support of sending secret police to cities run by Democrats yet?

Great letter, Jennifer Mitchell!

Pitbull

Not just police but secret police! I'm choking on hyperbole! Why dont you set up a tent in the south side of Chicago, kRobby and see if you'd like a little law enforcement help.

Newsjunkie39a

Hyperbole? Then why do those federal troops wear unmarked uniforms and drive unmarked vehicles? Perhaps the symbols they should display have two parallel lightning bolts.

Pitbull

Newsjunkie, they are unmarked because that makes it harder for your fellow "peaceful protestots" to throw molotov cocktails and bricks at them. Pretty simple. They want to be able to go home to their families after enforcing the law. Use your head.

Pitbull

Protestors

Newsjunkie39a

Pitbull, you've skewered yourself with your reply. Think back--if you can--to when Putin sent troops in unmarked uniforms into Crimea and parts of Ukraine. Why? So no one could conclusively identify who they were or where they came from. I hope you can understand the reason for Trump's secret police tactic, especially given their uninvited deployment was constitutionally unlawful. But by all means, refute this statement with a biblical verse or two; you're obviously reduced to falling back on religion.

Pitbull

Newzjunky, I dont fall back on religion as if it's a crutch. I rely on my faith to give me hope and grounding as I move forward through life. Only a secular elitist would skewer a Christian over religion. I bet doing the same to a Muslim would violate your code of ethics.

News Confuser,

As an elitist, do you enjoy trying to muddle a conversation?

Newsjunkie39a

Pitbull, while we have gone back and forth on current issues, I do respect strong, personally-held religious convictions, and the people who hold them, which seems to apply in your case. Where my problem comes in is when religious beliefs are called upon to justify intolerance. I believe that our current president and vice presidents are poster boys for that aberration.
