My name is Eric Virkler, and I am Republican candidate for Lewis County treasurer.
I will bring more than 20 years of directly related experience in government and municipal finance to this role.
I worked as the chief financial officer at Lewis County General Hospital for six years where I was responsible for all financial operations, budgeting and government reporting.
As clerk/treasurer/administrator for the village of Lowville, I managed a government organization for four years.
For the last 10 years, I have served as Lewis County’s director of economic development and the executive director of the Lewis County Industrial Development Agency.
I also previously worked as an accountant and auditor and have been licensed as a certified public accountant.
I am familiar with Lewis County government, having worked with our county manager and legislators for many years. I am confident I can continue the great work of retiring County Treasurer Patty O’Brien.
I live in Lowville with my spouse, Heidi VanZandt.
We have many family members and friends in Lewis County.
Heidi recently sold Sunnycrest Flowers, the small business she operated for 23 years.
I was her accountant and part-time delivery driver.
We are active members of the community, participating in events such as the Cream Cheese Festival and Relay for Life, and we are longtime members of First Presbyterian Church in Lowville.
Our free time is spent running, racing in triathlons and participating in other health and fitness activities.
As Lewis County’s treasurer, I would provide fiscally responsible management.
I look forward to the opportunity to work with the knowledgeable staff in the treasurer’s office.
I will bring a diverse perspective to the office.
I will ask questions, work with county personnel to consider new ideas and provide financial advice to the county manager and Board of Legislators.
A treasurer must be a steward of public funds, an experienced business professional and an individual that staff, legislators and members of the community can look to for financial knowledge.
I am qualified to serve as Lewis County treasurer and would appreciate your support.
Please vote in the primary election June 25.
