LaFargeville’s Valin named All-American hurler


CORTLAND — LaFargeville’s Matt Valin was selected an NCAA Division III All-American and the New York Region’s Pitcher of the Year on Friday by the American Coaches Association and

Valin made the All-America first team for and was part of the ABCA’s All-America third team.

Valin went 9-0 with a 2.35 earned-run average in 13 games as a starter and 15 games overall. He allowed 32 hits and walked 33 in 69 innings pitched and struck out 92. He is ranked second in Division III with 4.2 hits allowed per nine innings and 21st in strikeouts per nine innings with 12.

Valin, a senior, helped Cortland go 34-13-1 and reach the NCAA Tournament for the 27th straight year.
