Bears’ Parker named SUNYAC’s rookie of year

SUNY Potsdam freshman Adam Parker was named the SUNYAC Outdoor Track and Field men’s Rookie of the Year on Tuesday.

Parker, who is a Potsdam native, is the first SUNY Potsdam athlete to earn all-SUNYAC honors in the sport. He finished second at the conference championship meet in the shot put with a toss of 51-feet, 3-inches and was also second in the All-Atlantic Regionals at SUNY Cortland with a throw of 49-4.

Last season Parker finished sixth in the Federation competition at the state meet with a throw of 54-1/4. The shot put used at the college level is heavier than the one used in high school.
