College women’s soccer
POTSDAM — Clarkson University announced Tuesday that Zac Shaw has been hired as the new women’s soccer coach replacing Kelsey Yam, who left after three years to be an assistant at NCAA Division I Hofstra.
Shaw spent last season at the University of Rochester as the program’s first assistant coach. The team finished with a 9-8-1 overall record and qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament. He spent seven years at the NCAA Division I level as an assistant coach at Connecticut and was head coach for six years at Rhode Island. He was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year in 2005.
Shaw, a 1992 graduate of Ithaca and former goalie, has also spent time as an assistant at Florida, Wisconsin and Penn State. He played professional soccer in North America and Belgium and was a member of the Rochester Rhinos in 1996. His wife, Emily (Oleksiuk) was a goalie at Penn State and was on the U.S. women’s national team in 1999 and 2001.
