Sugden’s baserunning key in Panthers’ win


CHAUMONT — Thanks to some savvy base running by Hannah Sugden, the Belleville Henderson softball team won its final game of the Frontier League regular season, 1-0, over Lyme in a “D” Division game Sunday.

After doubling in the third inning, Sugden took off for third base once the ball got away and she then scored the only run. She finished with three hits and two doubles, and Ashley Green had three hits for the Panthers (9-5, 9-5).

Sydney Hess struck out six and allowed Lyme only three hits. Recording those hits for the Indians (8-6, 8-6) were Callie LaFontaine, Gabby Madeline and Rikki Wallace.

Sarah Johnson recorded her 600th career strikeout in LaFargeville’s shutout win over the Golden Knights in a “D” Division game at Copenhagen.

The senior finished with nine strikeouts and went 1-for-3 with two runs batted in. Kamryn Barnes, Miranda Brown, Izzy Soluri and Abby Gaumes each picked up a hit for the Red Knights (14-0, 14-0).

Riley Dalrymple and Taylor Ridsdale recorded Copenhagen’s only two hits.

A five-run fifth inning propelled the Golden Knights past Lyme in a “D” Division game in Chaumont.

Raegan Dalrymple and Riley Pierce each finished with three RBIs for Copenhagen (5-10, 5-8).

Kaitlyn Weston had two singles for Lyme.

Taylor Benda allowed just two hits in the first game of an NAC Central doubleheader in Canton. The Sandstoners struck for six runs in the third inning and were led offensively by Alex Quinn with a single and triple and Karley Green with a single and a double.

In the nightcap, Potsdam scored six runs in the first inning and struck for three in the fourth for the sweep.

Lexi Huiatt stroked three singles and Brooke Larrabee launched a home run for Canton.

Makiah Ramsdell struck out 14 and Kelsy Wait lined a homer and a single for the Larries, who remained undefeated in the NAC Central.


Ben LaRock struck out 14 in a six-inning one-hitter and rapped a triple and a single to lead a 17-hit Golden Knights’ offense in a West Division game.
