BEAVER FALLS — Jack Buckingham pitched all five innings and went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in to help South Jefferson beat Beaver River, 15-5, in a Frontier League baseball crossover clash of undefeated division leaders on Tuesday.
The Spartans (15-0 overall and league) slugged eight runs in the second inning and tallied 16 hits to win their sixth game in as many days. They had already clinched the league’s “B” Division title.
Buckingham struck out seven and allowed four earned runs on five hits in the five-inning victory, helping his cause with three singles. Evan Widrick went 2-for-4 with two doubles while Nate Matteson was 2-for-2 with a double, single, and two RBIs for South Jefferson.
Jake Boliver and Kade Schneider each hit a home run and knocked in two runs apiece for “C” Division-leading Beaver River (13-1, 12-1).
LYME 14, THOUSAND ISLANDS 4 (12)
Evan Froelich piled up 20 strikeouts and delivered three hits, including an RBI-triple, and the Lakers unleashed for 10 runs in the 12th inning to beat the Vikings in a crossover game at Clayton.
Freshman Alex Radley smacked a two-run double in the final frame and stole home, while Jonny LaFontaine knocked in two runs on two hits for Lyme (9-2).
Jackson Ludlow singled to go with three stolen bases and an RBI for Thousand Islands (5-8).
BELLEVILLE HENDERSON 5 SOUTH LEWIS 2
Evan Howard hit a two-run single as part of a four-run seventh inning as the Panthers rallied past the Falcons for a crossover victory in Turin.
Brady Mooney singled and drove in a run while Chris Vaughn doubled for Belleville Henderson (8-2).
Matt Farese doubled and plated a run for South Lewis (6-8, 6-7).
CARTHAGE 13, GENERAL BROWN 3 (6)
Mason Moser finished 4-for-4 with a double and three singles, stole four bases, scored three runs, and drove in another to carry the Comets to the six-inning Frontier League crossover victory over the Lions at Carthage.
Jaired Bach ripped a three-run double for Carthage (7-5, 6-4).
Brock McManaman singled twice while Jackson Ward tallied a first-inning RBI double for General Brown (2-10, 1-9).
SOFTBALL
SOUTH JEFFERSON 6, INDIAN RIVER 4
Remissa Stephens posted two hits and two RBIs as the Spartans held off the Warriors for a Frontier League crossover win at Philadelphia.
Shea Odell pitched six innings to pick up the win for South Jefferson (11-1, 9-0).
Victoria Noone registered three hits, including a solo home run, for Indian River (6-5, 4-5).
WATERTOWN 7, CARTHAGE 2
Payton McConnell went 4-for-4 as the host Cyclones beat the Comets in an “A” Division game at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds.
Willa Overton and Aiyana Thomas each brought in a pair of runs for Watertown (5-7, 4-5).
Shantel Cox drilled three singles for Carthage (2-9, 1-7).
SANDY CREEK 24, LAFARGEVILLE 0 (5)
Scout Preston went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs as the Comets blanked the Red Knights in a crossover game in Sandy Creek.
Madison Darlin went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Baylee Williams registered three hits for Sandy Creek (10-1, 10-0).
McKenna Autry singled for LaFargeville (0-10).
ALEXANDRIA 16, SOUTH LEWIS 15
Abby Edgar’s walk-off single helped the Purple Ghosts rally past the Falcons in crossover slugfest at Alexandria Bay.
Sierra Fasshauer plated two runs in a three-run seventh inning and Marlo Porter added three hits and two RBIs for Alexandria (9-1, 8-1).
Jade Dolan homered and tripled for South Lewis (4-9, 4-7).
LYME 6, BELLEVILLE HENDERSON 3
Katrina Sanford’s two hits helped the Lakers upend the Panthers in a “D” Division game at Chaumont.
Alanna Langdon struck out eight in a complete game five-hitter and Dallas Parker drove in a run for Lyme (2-10, 2-9).
Eily Vaughn supplied a pair of hits for Belleville Henderson (4-8, 3-6).
BOYS LACROSSE
GENERAL BROWN 7, CARTHAGE 2
Luke Secreti stopped 11 of 13 shots and Ethan McConnell set the pace with a goal and three assists to power the Lions to the Frontier League victory over the Comets in Dexter.
Sheamus Devine scored twice while Luke Dupee logged a goal and an assist for General Brown (7-5, 6-2).
Corey Decker made 10 saves for Carthage (4-9, 4-5).
SOUTH JEFFERSON 13, THOUSAND ISLANDS 6
Cobin O’Brien totaled six points, including scoring a pair of goals, and Andre Watts scored three goals and assisted on two others as the Spartans defeated the Vikings in a Frontier League game in Adams.
Ethan Hopkins contributed four goals and an assist for South Jefferson (6-7, 4-4), Chase Waite scored a pair of goals and goalie Connor Leone made eight saves to record the win.
Sawyer Brown scored three goals for Thousand Islands (2-9, 1-7) and Peyton Lamon tallied two goals.
GIRLS LACROSSE
INDIAN RIVER 20, WHITESBORO 6
Michaela Delles delivered seven goals and three assists, and Ravan Marsell tallied six goals and five assists to go with 10 draw controls as the host Warriors claimed a nonleague win over Whitesboro (7-5) in Philadelphia.
Keera LaLonde added two goals and two assists, while Kallie Delles and Carolina Burnard scored two goals apiece for Indian River (12-2).
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD
SPARTANS SWEEP
Kennady Billman won the 100- and 200-meter dashes along with the long jump to help the Spartans (7-0) to a sweep of the Falcons (5-1) and Comets (0-5) in a Frontier League tri-meet in Adams.
Chloe Abbott took first in the 400 hurdles and triple jump for South Jefferson, which claimed a 73-68 win over South Lewis and a 104-37 victory over Carthage.
Brynn Bernard won the 800 and 1,5000, while Shelby Becraft took first in the pole vault and 100 hurdles to help South Lewis beat Carthage, 96-45.
