PHILADELPHIA — South Jefferson’s Alex Denehy continued his fast start to the season Tuesday, firing a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts against Indian River in a Frontier League crossover baseball game the Spartans won 9-0 in five innings.
Denehy’s second start of the season came after he struck out 10 in a no-hitter against General Brown on April 10.
On Tuesday, Denehy added two hits for the Spartans (3-0, 3-0). Colden Montague also had two hits and drove in three runs.
The Comets scored a run in the sixth to put into effect the mercy rule as they beat the Lions for a crossover win in Carthage.
Ben Bowen went 2-for-4 with five runs batted and Justin Uribe was 3-for-4 for the Comets (2-5, 2-1).
For General Brown (0-3, 0-3), Kyle Nichols went 2-for-4.
Jared Makuch and Ian Anderson each drove in three runs as the Falcons blanked the Panthers in a crossover game in Turin. Derek Crofoot tossed a one-hitter and struck out six for South Lewis (1-1).
Leah Briones posted two hits and two RBIs as the Spartans stayed unbeaten with a crossover win over the Warriors at Philadelphia.
Alexis Gayne added a pair of hits and Jillian Hare gave up one run in a complete-game effort for South Jefferson (5-0, 3-0).
Brenlee Dingman and Elizabeth Hellings each recorded two hits for Indian River (0-2).
Sophomore Gabby Frappier tossed a three-hitter, striking out 12 as the Red Raiders defeated the Cyclones in their season opener in a division crossover game in Watertown which was shortened to six innings because of rain.
Grace Meyers went 3-for-4, including two doubles, knocked in three runs and stole a pair of bases for Lowville (1-0). Bailey Zicari also went 3-for-4, drove in two runs and stole three bases. Maggie Fredenburg doubled, singled and drove in two runs for Watertown (0-1).
Chloe Hunziker hurled a three-hit shutout as the Falcons topped the Panthers in a crossover game at Turin.
Brooklyn Sullivan chipped in with three singles for South Lewis (1-1).
The Patriots score eight runs on just two hits as they shut out the Purple Ghosts in a Frontier League “D” Division game in Sackets Harbor.
The Patriots (1-3, 1-3) were able to work seven walks. Corinne Martin delivered a two-RBI single with the bases loaded.
Kirsten Joslin struck out 11 batters in Beaver River’s crossover victory over Lyme in Beaver Falls. Alexia Clemons contributed two RBIs for the Beavers (3-1, 2-0) .
Kori Nichols was 2-for-4 with an RBI in the Lions’ crossover victory over the Comets in Carthage. Emma Dupee pitched seven innings, struck out five and allowed just three hits for the Lions (1-2, 1-1).
Cole Yurack generated five goals and two assists and powered the Cyclones past the host Cavaliers in a Frontier League “A” Division game.
Vincent Lavarnway and Will Delagarza each scored twice while Ethan Wise added a goal and three assists for Watertown (4-3, 1-0).
Josh Demko totaled eight points, including scoring five goals, and Carter Kempney scored five goals to propel the Comets to an “A” Division victory over the Warriors in Carthage.
Nick Cavellier scored four goals for Carthage (3-4, 1-0) in its league opener and Nick Neff totaled three goals and three assists.
Luke Piroli chipped in with a goal and four assists for the Comets.
Ayden LaFave totaled two goals and an assist and Rowan Marsell scored two goals for Indian River (6-1, 1-1), which was dealt its first loss.
Corey O’Connor’s six goals propelled the Lions to a “B” Division victory over the Red Raiders in Lowville.
Bryce Johnson totaled five goals and two assists for General Brown (7-1, 2-0) and Carter Rosbrook (four goals, three assists) and Tre Coney (three goals, four assists) also totaled seven points each.
Austin Mesler totaled 10 points, including scoring four goals, and goalie Tim Williams was credited with 27 saves as the Spartans downed the Vikings in a “B” Division game in Adams.
Jackson Worden tallied nine points, including three goals, and Storm Tiberend scored four goals for South Jefferson (2-6, 1-1). Alex Jacobs chipped in with two goals for the Spartans.
Julia Lavarnway totaled three goals and an assist and Sarah Kilburn scored three goals to spark the Cyclones past the Cavaliers in a Frontier League game at Immaculate Heart Central.
Megan Millard tallied two goals and an assist and Brenna Smith scored two goals as Watertown (3-3, 1-3) recorded its first league win of the season.
Amanda McElheran totaled two goals and two assists for IHC (1-2), Malia Byard scored a pair of goals .
TRACK AND FIELD
Marly Jacobs took first in three events as the South Jefferson girls won at the Tully Spring Invitational on Monday.
Jacobs won the pole vault, 400-meter hurdles and was part of the 1,600 relay for the Spartans. Sister Julie Jacobs swept the shot put and discus while Alycia Haynes took the 800 and teamed with Marly Jacobs, Julia Largett and Kaylee Haynes on the 1,600 relay. Beaver River placed second and Shauna Rice won the 400.
Dawson Gerdon was part of the winning 1,600 relay and won the 400 hurdles as Beaver River won the boys meet. Josiah Evan, Patrick Golden and Cody Monnat were also part of the victorious relay.
