Rapids ousted during home final

WATERTOWN — The Watertown Rapids’ struggles at home this season continued in a 14-9 loss to the Elmira Pioneers on Wednesday night.

Brody Moore went 4-for-4, including a double, and drove in two runs to help power the Pioneers past the Rapids in a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League game at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds.

With the loss, the Rapids (11-14) were dealt their eighth consecutive setback on their home field.

Trae Harmon homered, singled and drove in two runs for Elmira (10-15).

Preston Moore and Garrett Schultz each collected three hits for the Pioneers and both knocked in a pair of runs.

Elmira built a 5-1 lead through the first two innings before Watertown bounced back with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull within 6-5.

But the Pioneers responded with eight runs over the next four innings, including four in the top of the fifth.

George Rosales singled twice for the Rapids, Brandon Taylor doubled and singled and James Krick doubled.

The Rapids will play at Elmira at 7:05 p.m. today in an Independence Day game and will play at the West Division-leading Geneva Red Wings on Friday, also at 7:05 p.m.

On Saturday, the Rapids and Red Wings are scheduled to complete a suspended game at 5:15 p.m. at the Fairgrounds, followed by a seven-inning game between the two teams.

Watertown will then host the Newark Pilots in a doubleheader at 3:15 p.m. on Sunday.
