Brown, Denesha, Labarr reach City golf semifinals

WATERTOWN — Paul Grant Jr. rallied from four holes down to play to beat No. 18 Shawn Thomas on the 19th hole to win a second-round match at the City Golf championship Monday at Ives Hill Country Club.

Grant Jr., the 31st seed, birdied three of the final four holes to turn around the deficit and advance. He’ll play the winner of No. 10 Sam Cavallario and No. 28 George Labarr later in the week. Grant Jr. had upset second-seed and multiple-time winner Joseph Tufo in Sunday’s opening round of match play.

Second-round matches will go today and Wednesday. The quarterfinals are set to be played Thursday and Friday, with semifinals slated for Saturday, and the 36-hole final set for Sunday.
