The Northern New York Junior Bassmasters Club opened its 2019 Tournament Trail on Sunday with the annual Chuck Roach Memorial Tournament on Black Lake.

Roach is remembered each year for his support of young anglers and for his love of fishing on Black Lake.

Each year the tournament opens with a ceremonial cast for Chuck Roach and the club anglers then went out the landed nice smallmouth and largemouth from the big lake.

The biggest bag of the day came from the High School Club where Drew and Jack Mills weighed in 12.23 pounds and biggest fish of the day came from the Junior Club where Hunter Spriggs landed a 3.58-pound bass.

In the High School Division Ty and Chase Jacobs took second place at 6.99 pounds and Griffin Walker and James Wilson took third at 6.88 pounds. Drew Mills landed the High School Club Lunker at 3.11 pounds. Cooper Bennett received the club’s Sportsmanship Award.

Hunter Spriggs and Jack Morley led the Junior Club with a 5.49-pound bag followed by Cain Kenney and Cael McCarthy at 4.60, Jackson Fortin and Fred Morrill at 4.54 pounds and Beau Frost (fished alone)at 4.35. Rowyn Heaton, who fished alone, received the Sportsmanship Award.
