POTSDAM - An overtime goal from Ashley Martin lifted Potsdam to a 2-1 decision over Akwesesane in North Country Women’s Summer Soccer action at the SUNY Potsdam turf field on Tuesday.

Lacey Malbeuf opened the scoring for the host team midway through the first half before Nidia DeArmayero converted off a corner kick by Carley Cree in the closing minute to pull Akwesasne (3-3) even and the teams went scoreless through the second half.

Sarah Casey worked the crease for the win as Potsdam moved to 6-0 on the season.

In other NC Women’s Soccer matchups Tuesday, Massena outlasted Madrid-Waddington 2-1, Heuvelton edged Colton-Parishville 3-2 and Gouverneur hosted Canton.

Heuvelton 3, C-P 2: At Heuvelton, Heather Johnson struck for a pair of goals to spark the winning offense while Hannah Bowen netted a singleton as the host team improved to 3-2.

Kodi Perkins and Summer Scovil broke through for the C-P (3-3) goals.

Massena 2, M-W 1: At Madrid, Ava LaValley scored unassisted for and Katie MacCuaig tallied the eventual game-winner off an assist from Amanda Riley as the visiting squad posted its first victor of the season.


In a North Country Men’s Summer Soccer matchup staged at Swift Field in South Colton on Sunday, Chip’s Place-CKON of Potsdam remained undefeated at 8-0 with a 2-0 win over host S&L Electric (5-2).

Tony Betrus scored the only goal CP-CKON would need on a penalty kick in the first half after Kaden Conners was tripped up making a strong move toward the net. Tim Cook added the insurance goal in the second half when he converted on a through ball from Mark Misiak.

Johnny Miller turned aside the six shots he faced backstopping the shutout.
