CANTON — The Salmon River baseball team rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game and went on to beat No. 4 Canton 8-5 in 11 innings in a Section 10 Class B first-round playoff game Wednesday.

The No. 5 Shamrocks (3-10 overall) will travel to play No. 1 Ogdensburg Free Academy at 5 p.m. May 29 in a semifinal.

Timothy Cook led Salmon River’s offense, going 4-for-6. Gavin Cook-Avery went 3-for-6 and starting pitcher Connor Lewis struck out 11 in seven innings.

Jack Finnerty struck out 16 in 8 2/3 innings for Canton (2-12) and went 3-for-4.

Daulton Scharf picked up two hits, including a double, and Dawson Scharf went 2-for-4 to lead Malone (8-4) in a Northern Athletic Conference Central Division game in Potsdam.

Syl Foisy lined two hits and drove in two runs for Potsdam (6-8, 5-7).

Sam Clark-Vallance went 3-for-3 to help Parishville-Hopkinton (5-9) win the first game of an East Division doubleheader against the Flyers in Norwood.

Payton Phelix and Tanner Rosenbarker each added two hits while Pat Smith led the Flyers (13-3, 12-2) with two hits.

Reed Gravlin paced the Flyers in game two with a single and triple.

Garrett Piercey threw a two-hit shutout and struck out 11 to send the Green Rockets to victory in a West Division game in Morristown.

Tristan Simmons lined two singles for Morristown (6-6, 6-4).

The Lions scored three runs in the top of the seventh to break the tie and defeat the Cavaliers in a Frontier League crossover match in Watertown.

Nick Lennox, Caleb Johnson and Eli Rawleigh scored the three runs in the top of the seventh for the Lions (2-10, 1-10). Lennox finished with three hits and three runs scored.

Benjamin Rathbun and Chris Kiser each picked up two hits for the Cavaliers (0-8, 0-8).


A split of a West Division doubleheader in Morristown earned each team a spot in the eight-team, Section 10 Class D playoffs.

Riley Showers singled and scored twice for the Green Rockets (7-7) in the opener. Emery McQuade and Tessa Garvey singled twice for the Demons (7-7).

Rylie Hale singled three times for the Demons and Maddie Brabaw added two in game two for Hermon-DeKalb. Morgan Macaulay and Emma Showers produced two hits for the Green Rockets.

Hailey Cunningham finished with three hits, including a double, to send Hammond (10-4) past Lisbon in a West Division game in Lisbon.

Kelsey Bennett and Avery Kenyon both added two hits for Hammond.

Adrian Duvall finished with three hits, including a triple, for Lisbon (2-13, 2-12).

Steph Curran homered twice to send the Yellowjackets (6-7) past the Colts in an East Division game in Madrid.

Marissa Hawkins picked up three hits for Madrid-Waddington. Alexus Cuthbert, Jozalynn Campbell and Sarah Marsh all tallied three hits for the Colts (6-6).

Emma Wentworth struck out seven to lead Canton past the Blue Devils in a Central Division game in Ogdensburg.

Wentworth also added a single for Canton (7-7). Rileigh Planty struck out six for OFA (10-5, 10-3).

Ryleigh McCauley was the winning pitcher and also added two hits as Malone (6-8) defeated Potsdam in a Central Division game in Potsdam.

Alanna Dumas and Kaytie Lamica both added two hits for Malone.

Karley Green and Taylor Benda both produced three hits for Potsdam (7-7).

Kaylee Johnson doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs as the Comets beat the Golden Knights in a nonleague game at Carthage.

Kiannah Ward added three hits, including a double, for Carthage (11-7).

Riley Dalrymple singled for Copenhagen (4-12).


Carthage took four out of five matches to beat Lowville, 4-1, to earn a share of the Frontier League regular season title.

Lelan O’Brien completed an unbeaten league campaign by beating Jared Ortlieb, 6-4, 6-0, in first singles for Carthage (7-1).

Tate Smith of Lowville (3-4) took his match in second singles over Cole Gittins, 6-4, 6-4.
