‘It’s finished’: Sacred Heart went up in flames 50 years ago

The church was estimated to cost $2 million to repair, many times more than insurance would cover. The stone structure of the church, at West Lynde and Thompson streets, was built between 1905 and 1908, and it was dedicated in 1906. Watertown Daily Times
