‘It’s finished’: Sacred Heart went up in flames 50 years ago

Only smouldering ruins and ice-coated walls remained on Feb. 14, 1969, of the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart church, which was destroyed by fire. The church was insured for $567,000 but will cost an estimated $2 million to replace. One hundred firemen from the city and county battled the blaze. Watertown Daily Times file
