Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-Schyulerville, was endorsed for re-election on Tuesday by the National Border Patrol Council.

The National Border Patrol Council is a labor union that represents 18,000 border patrol agents across the country, and positions itself as a proponent of strong border policies and border patrol agent safety.

“Elise Stefanik has a proven record of protecting all those in her district and beyond,” said Brandon Judd, union president. “She supports the rule of law, which keeps her communities safe. Her support of the rule of law includes border security and the mission of the Border Patrol.”

Rep. Stefanik serves as co-chair of the Northern Border Caucus, a coalition of legislators that represent districts along the U.S.-Canada border. Over the course of her time in the House, she has repeatedly advocated for expanding the Border Patrol service, adding more agents, and increasing funding to Customs and Border Protection.

Nice company you keep, Sleazy Elise. Birds of a feather, hmm?

The NBPC has a bit of a problem with corruption. In February, the FBI began an investigation into a local chapter of the Trump-leaning union due to the embezzlement of over half a million dollars.

"Under the Trump administration, the Border Patrol, a once obscure federal agency, has been thrust into the center of a rancorous debate over immigration policy, facing intense criticism over the squalid conditions in the agency’s overcrowded detention facilities, a string of migrant deaths and revelations that some 9,500 current and former agents were part of a private Facebook group that included vulgar and misogynistic content...Equally troubling has been evidence of ongoing lawlessness in the agency’s ranks. Over the past five years, hundreds of Border Patrol agents have been arrested on charges ranging from drunken driving to murder, causing alarm among congressional leaders, law enforcement experts and the Border Patrol’s own advisory board, which in 2016 warned that criminal misconduct by agents could undermine the agency’s ability to secure the borders....forensic auditors hired by the union had discovered “$352,389.31 that was misappropriated. They also found that there was another $150,035.65 that was not properly paid to the IRS in tax money. Somebody pocketed it, just up and walked away.” "The union collects roughly $65 per month from each of its members; the money is split between the local and the national office. " ProPublica February 24 2020 [With 18000 members that's a nice chunk of change. Someone could fund a nice political campaign with that stolen money....]

Nah. She'll probably get away with 7 to 10, minimum security, in a Westchester Country Club "prison" with time off for good behavior.

Ever on point, LAW!

IQ of the Republican areas of the North Country: below 100.

Food stamp levels of Stefanik areas: more than 1 in 5.

Reminds me of what Conservatives used to say about blacks people, they vote against their own best interests.

And I just saw the news that 1199 SEIU, the nation’s largest healthcare union, has endorsed Tedra Cobb. I'll be watching here for an article about that endorsement, too. Right, WDT?

We need to get one thing straight. Apparently this is how it works:

If anybody at all endorses Stefanik it's newsworthy and important.

The corollary is that if there is any implication that Stefanik, in any way, was anything less than perfect -- well, that is just very likely a lie. The thinking is that she is perfect sometimes or probably most of the time so any detractors are just FALSE.

Tedra Cobb, on the other hand, is not Stefanik -- so that's a strike against her right off. If any group endorses Tedra they probably either made a mistake, do not represent the whole group (making that endorsement obviously invalid), or they must just be a Democrat Socialist Marxist or something like that.

Well, now I feel foolish thinking there would be fairness and accuracy for both candidates when it comes to reporting endorsements. Thanks for setting me straight. Best to know the lay of the land.

Principles of Journalism

1. Journalism’s first obligation is to the truth

2. Its first loyalty is to citizens

3. Its essence is a discipline of verification

4. Its practitioners must maintain an independence from those they cover

5. It must serve as an independent monitor of power

6. It must provide a forum for public criticism and compromise

7. It must strive to make the significant interesting and relevant

8. It must keep the news comprehensive and proportional

9. Its practitioners must be allowed to exercise their personal conscience

10. Citizens, too, have rights and responsibilities when it comes to the news

Do you get those periodic emails urging you to subscribe to NNY360? They used to tout the "responsible journalism" that they provided. More recently, this is left out -- focusing instead on their digital version.

I once stated, in a comment, that I had the "impression" that responsible journalism wasn't quite what NNY360 was presenting. I received a reply from Jerry Moore calling me a liar. When I reminded him that my statement was of an impression, he doubled down and called me a liar again.

That is what we are dealing with here.

Holmes - the real one -- Thanks for the info re: journalism. I have a question. Who is Jerry Moore?

All you need to know about Taxin Tedra:

You needn't feel foolish. It should be expected but unfortunately the WDT will throw in some insignificant tidbit about Cobb and then holler at the top of their lungs they're being fair. This wasn't a coincidence presenting a picture of stefanik with a mask when she and other republicans have lobbied against them and are now are doing an about face with it.

Don't forget this is how it was started with tRUMP:

Although satire, The Onion hit the nail on the head with this one. The republican establishment made a mockery of it until they saw tRUMP's poll numbers slide.

Now tRUMP loves masks and that's why stefanik feels comfortable playing along.

At least my great grandkids won't feel compelled to lie about where their ancestors stood with things in stain on America.

Did I miss the article about the teachers' union endorsing Tedra Cobb?

Wow, that’s breaking news. Who would have predicted that?

And the National Border Patrol Council endorses Stefanik for re-election? Just amazing.

You're not alone real Holmes. Been there done that, still there regarding one of you above comments! [beam]
